Fic!
I knew that being obsessed with YGO would produce an Anzu-fic eventually. And here it is... after watching episode... 28. Go me!

Title: Easier
Fandom: YGO
Pairing: Yami no Bakura/Mazaki Anzu
Summery: He didn't understand why she plagued him so...

It probably would have been easier to let Pegasus send their souls to the Shadow Realm.  It probably would have been easier then to just kill Pegasus and take the Sennen eye.

And since when did he not do what was easier?

Apparently since the pretty brunette made her appearance in his new life.

He didn’t understand why she made him hesitate whenever she was around, or why he suddenly found himself doing things that were contrary to his nature.  It certainly wasn’t because his host held some feelings for her; the boy’s feelings were irrelevant after all.  It was something within him, and that in itself was disturbing.

She reminded him of something, perhaps of someone.  Maybe in his past life?  Normally, the fact that he couldn’t remember where or when he came from didn’t bother him, since he knew he wound find his memories once he gained the seven Sennen items.  Yet since he had seen her the first time, in that classroom through the eyes of his host, he couldn’t help but wish he could remember.  It bothered him, and he didn’t like being bothered.

It was only made worse by the fact that he couldn’t harm her, or let harm come to her.  He felt some absurd need to protect her and felt a sort of incomprehensible rage whenever she was upset or threatened.  For example when he trapped Yugi and his little friends in their favorite cards.  He could have easily attacked her, she was the weakest, and yet he didn’t, and it had cost him the duel.

Or like the current situation.  He had been biding his time, waiting for the right moment to strike.  That his host was friends with a Sennen item possessor was extremely useful for him.  It allowed him to keep an eye on things without setting off any alarm bells – key for any thief worth his salt.  He hadn’t even cared when his host was dragged off on some stupid expedition to find out how Pegasus was cheating (really, the boy should have known), he had been content to watch in sneering amusement as his host and his friends made fools of themselves.

But then they had to go and get themselves caught.  Now, however nice it would have been to kick the boy from his body, he knew he needed him.  Thus he couldn’t just let Pegasus send his host to the Shadow Realm.  He could have, however, let the man send the other two, it wasn’t like he cared what happened to them.  Except the stupid urge to protect her stormed through him again in the instant Pegasus’ eye began to glow and before he knew it he was appearing from the ring, shifting so that he stood between the pale haired freak and her.

In that instant he was so enraged with himself that he did the first thing that came to mind – he erased all their memories.  Which of course left him in his current awkward position.  Now he had to get the two teenagers back to their rooms.

He really was going to have to do something about the apparent weakness he had towards the brunette girl.  Either that or figure out why he had said weakness.  At least if he knew why he could decide properly whether it was worth his time.

Heaving an impatient sigh, he bent over and scooped the lithe girl into his arms, his lips twisted in a scowl.  Damn girl.

His ring glowed, and the glow extended to surround the unconscious, brown haired boy and levitate him off the ground.  Without turning to look at Pegasus’ body, he took off down the corridor to where the ring told him the exit was.  A perfect opportunity ruined, and all because of a bloody woman.

It made him even angrier to realize that he could have levitated her like he did the moron, but instead he chose to carry her himself.  He was losing control, and the thought irritated him.  But he didn’t relinquish his hold, no matter how badly his brain wanted him too.  There was something about holding her, something about cradling her against his chest and knowing that he had complete power over her.  It was as if in that instant she was his.

Of course the thought was ridiculous.  He didn’t even want her.  She was an annoying fly that kept getting in his way.  Ugh, it seemed he was going to have to erase his own memory… again.

It took a good half hour to get out of the dungeon levels and back up into the residential wing.  The male moron’s room was his first stop and he wasted little effort or time dumping the boy on the bed.  The girl’s room was next and he found himself setting her down gently on the bed top.  His scowl darkened even as he lingered over her, wanting to do something, but unsure of what that something was.

Something inside him stirred as he stared at her, bathed in the moonlight.  That something told him that she was special, or had been special, and that he had known her intimately in his previous life.  Emotions from my mortal life? He thought incredulously, skimming fingers over the soft skin of her face.  Is that why she plagues me so?  Did I hold some form of attachment for this girl’s former self?

He asked himself why it even mattered.  So what if his mortal self had attachments to the past life of this girl?  Why did it still plague him now?  It shouldn’t have mattered, he didn’t even remember her.

Perhaps your soul recognizes hers?  Maybe, in your other life, you loved her so much that it imprinted on you forever?

He hissed and whirled around, away from the sleeping girl.  Nobody asked you.  He snapped inwardly, shutting his host out before the boy could say another word.

He didn’t love her, the cheerleader of Yugi Muto.  He didn’t even like her.  Whatever strange influence she had over him ended right then.  From now on he would push her out of his mind, the girl with brown hair and bright blue eyes.

Mazaki Anzu.

HEE. Wonderful story here. Ryou really did seem to stick close to Anzu in Duelist Kingdom, didn't he? Bwaha.

And I love the scene that your fic works around. The one where they were caught by Pegasus, and Bakura came forward, mwah.

Loved it. Write more... maybe please??

^_^

Haha, I saw this in the Anzu community awhile ago, but for some reason, instead of: "Yami no Bakura/Mazaki Anzu" I thought I saw, "Yami no Malik/Mazaki Anzu" and that just stopped me from ever clicking the link. ^O^ I'm glad I caught my mistake, because this was a lovely read.
